Claim: A Mudra loan 1% letter circulating on social media has sanctioned ₹2,00,000 to an individual under Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana.

Verdict: False

On the record: PIB Fact Check, 30 August 2026, quoted the same day by LatestLY: the letter is fake. MUDRA is a refinancing institution and does not lend directly to individuals. Loans are offered through bank branches, RBI-registered NBFCs, and MFIs. Official scheme pages: PIB PRID 2240159, mudra.org.in, factcheck.pib.gov.in.

New Delhi — 31 August 2026. Last updated 31 August 2026.

A letter is going around again. ₹2 lakh sanctioned. One per cent interest. Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana printed across the top. That is the Mudra loan 1% letter people are forwarding this week. The questions under it are the same: who typed it, and how did the money get “approved” without a bank visit?

Nobody has named the original poster in a way a newsroom can stand on. Prank or theft — the motive is a matter of guesswork. The document itself is not. PIB Fact Check tagged that exact ₹2 lakh / 1% file as fake on 30 August. LatestLY printed the same PIB line the same afternoon.

This is an old template with new numbers. On 21 June 2026, a letter promised ₹10 lakh if you paid ₹6,550; All India Radio News and PIB both ran that bust. Between 4 March and 21 April 2026 the same shop sold a ₹7 lakh file against ₹860 “agreement charges” — News18 on the March PIB post, Akashvani / newsonair.gov.in on 21 April. On 11 July, PIB flagged a ₹5 lakh letter that wanted ₹350 as a processing fee; AIR News Hindi carried it the next morning. Different figures. Same trick. Same official reply: the paper is fake.

How do you know without waiting for the next tweet? MUDRA does not release cash to a person or a shop. It refinances banks and small finance companies. Those lenders, after their own checks, put money in an account. If a PDF already “sanctions” you and asks for a fee or an OTP, it is doing the work of a thief, not a refinance agency. Same pattern we checked on the PM-KISAN Raksha Bandhan ₹4,000 clip.

What a Mudra loan is

Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana began on 8 April 2015. It is credit for small, non-farm work — a cart, a shop, a tailoring table, a dairy, a workshop. Micro Units Development and Refinance Agency Ltd. sits under SIDBI. It funds the lenders. The lenders fund you.

Four slabs sit in the government’s own 2026 notes. The live home page on mudra.org.in still talks in the older three-product language and a ₹10 lakh ceiling, so the table below is taken from PIB PRID 2240159 (14 March 2026) and the 11-year brief PRID 2249942 (8 April 2026). The Budget 2024 announcement that created Tarun Plus is PRID 2068019.

Swipe sideways on a phone. Tarun Plus is the 2024 slab; mudra.org.in has not fully rewritten its home page around it.

Interest is not 1%. The bank sets the rate under RBI rules. Outlets citing the 30 August PIB note put the usual band at about 8–24% a year, depending on the lender and the file. No gazette locks 1%.

Who can walk in: an individual, a proprietorship, a partnership, a company, an AOP or an LLP; an adult Indian citizen; a small business or self-employed activity; no live default. Women hold a large share of accounts. That is a scheme outcome, not a separate ladies-only window at 1%.

How you take the loan

Walk into a nearby commercial bank, regional rural bank, small finance bank, RBI-registered NBFC, or MFI. Carry ID, address proof, a photograph, business proof, and a quotation if you are buying a machine. The branch decides.

Online, the doors named in the same PIB note are udyamimitra.in and jansamarth.in (Business Activity Loan → Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana). You register, pick a slab, choose a lender, upload papers, and keep the application number. Cash moves only after that lender sanctions the file.

Questions people type after seeing the letter

Is the Mudra loan 1% letter real?

No. PIB Fact Check called the ₹2 lakh/1% file fake on 30 August 2026. MUDRA does not issue sanction letters to individuals.

Does MUDRA pay ₹2 lakh directly into a bank account?

No. It refinances banks, NBFCs, and MFIs. Those lenders, after their own checks, disburse the loan.

What is the real interest rate on a Mudra loan?

The lender sets it under RBI rules. There is no gazetted rate of 1%. Public explainers citing PIB put the usual band around 8–24% a year.

Read PIB PRID 2240159 and the 30 August PIB post before you forward the letter. If the PDF already “sanctions” you, it is not a bank file.
